INSTRUCTIONS TO DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT VERSION OF JAVA FOR YOUR MACHINE

First, you need to know what type of system you are working on.
  1. SOLARIS SYSTEMS
    1. Contact your System Adminstrator to have the proper version of Java downloaded for you. If you are the System Adminstrator, then skip to 3. Follow the instructions provided, instead of choosing Windows as your operating system, choose the correct Solaris operating system.
  2. LINUX
    1. Contact your System Adminstrator to have the proper version of Java downloaded for you. If you are the System Adminstrator, then skip to 3. Follow the instructions provided, instead of choosing Windows as your operating system, choose the correct Linux operating system.
  3. WINDOWS
To begin the download, visit the Java Sun Download Site . Once you are on this page, there are some steps that you will need to follow.
    1. On the Java Sun Download Site, there are some choices that you will have to make. This first choice is to choose your operation system on the download page. For Windows, you have two more choices, the first one is for US English only, this is the one that we suggest.
The other is for Windows (all languages), use this if you are outside the US or need a language other than English.
    2. Next to the choices for operating systems, there are 2 columns. On the top are the column descriptions. On the left is the JRE, and on the right is the column is SDK .
Click in the left column for the JRE where it says DOWNLOAD.
    3. After clicking on DOWNLOAD, you are directed to a page, where you need to read the Sun Microsystems, Inc. Binary Code License Agreement and also the JAVATM 2 RUNTIME ENVIRONMENT (J2RE), STANDARD EDITION, VERSION 1.4.1_X SUPPLEMENTAL LICENSE TERMS. You will need to scroll to the bottom of the page and decide to Accept or Decline the License Agreement. We Suggest that you Accept.
    4. Once you do Accept the License and Term Agreements, the Java Sun Site will direct you to the next page. On the next page, you will see a purple box with a link to download the Java Version that you need. Click the link in the purple box. (We tried to provide a link directly to this purple box for you, but Java Sun Microsystems has incorporated a method that forces the user to first choose their own operating system, and then to Agree to their License Terms and Agreements before getting to the purple box!)
    5. This may answer your Frequently Asked Questions about Downloading before you begin your download. It's OK if you do not want to read the FAQS first, or at all.
    6. If you run into trouble during your download, there is also a page for Installation Help or contact your System Adminstrator.
